Chi

In Igbo spirituality, Chi-Ukwu (Chukwu) is the Supreme God, the ultimate source of all existence. Chi refers to deities that serve Chukwu and act as intermediaries between humans and the divine. Chukwu and Chineke are the creative forces that gave birth to everything in existence. In "everything," Agwu is the first son, representing mystery, spirituality, and divine unpredictability. Agwu, in turn, gave birth to "many things," signifying the expansion of creation. Path to Divine Perfection: Any being that attains divine perfection automatically becomes Chi (a god). Every person has the right to choose any Chi as their guide, through which they can communicate with Chukwu. However, if one achieves perfection in everything, they transcend intermediaries and can communicate directly with Chukwu. Cycles of Existence: 1. Reincarnation (Ibia Uwa) – The continuous movement of the soul from one body to another in different lifetimes, seeking spiritual perfection. The same spirit inhabits different bodies. 2. Rebirth (Ino Uwa) – The reappearance of a departed soul in the same body, with the same traits, attitudes, and appearance. 3. Remigration (Iwa Ehe) – When a departed body reappears without a soul. These beings resemble their former selves exactly but live as empty shells, often avoiding contact with relatives.
